Other Less Likely Causes of Hair
Loss
Although we have
already stated the many different causes of hair loss from genetics
to other environmental causes like pollution to stresses in jobs
both physically and mentally. There are however times that these
situations are not the cause of hair loss. In this section we are
going to explore less likely causes of hair loss which people will
often fail to think off until it is too late.
One of the common
causes of hair loss that people very rarely diagnose properly is
iron deficiency. While it is quite unlikely that people in the
industrialized world with a protein and meat rich diet will suffer
from iron deficiency in their diet it is certainly something that
can happen when a person’s diet isn’t high in meat or iron rich
food products. Countries or cultures which do not have meat or iron
rich food may be particularly susceptible to this type of hair
loss.
Sometimes there
might even be a condition in the hair loss patient’s body that
causes iron deficiency thus causing the hair loss. Failure in the
human body to properly metabolize iron due to either an obstruction
in the digestive track lining or even other malabsorbtion syndromes
cause by poor health or even drug use can all make the body
metabolize iron slowly or even block it from doing so thus causing
hair loss.
Sometimes your
hair loss can ever be explained by your own metabolism or in this
case how you thyroid functions. People who suffer from
Hyperthyroidism can present with hair loss along with many other
symptoms. Hyperthyroidism is caused by the insufficient production
of thyroid hormones by the thyroid gland.
Other times hair
loss can be caused by viruses, diseases or fungal infections that
you might have contracted. The two common reasons conditions that
will cause hair loss and actually happens quite often to people
are:
- Mycotic
Infections and;
- Cysts.
In addition to
these normally harmless conditions there are also viruses, diseases
and fungal infections that are more serious that can cause hair
loss. The most distressing of these are the sexually transmitted
diseases like syphilis which at their later and very dangerous
stages can cause hair loss along with a host of other
symptoms.
Some drugs used
to treat certain conditions can also cause hair loss. The most
obvious of these are chemotherapy drugs which are well documented
to cause hair loss. Some other drugs that affect the production and
regulation of hormones such as hormone therapy drugs can also cause
hair loss. Long term use of testosterone enhancement drugs will
also cause hair loss in the long term.
